Not Bad

Overall, this piece isn't too shabby. Though your pacing is a bit too slow, your sense of visual drama is pretty good. The gun flash in Batman's eye was pretty cool. The animation when Batman hits the thug and takes his mask off was excellent! Even the cops getting hit looked nice and smooth.

My only crit of this piece is that you really need to pay attention to what you're doing, information-wise. You misspelled "Gotham", "Batman" is one word and the composer is Danny Elfman, not John Williams.

I look forward to seeing more from you and watching you improve from project to project. Good luck!

In A Word ... EXCELLENT!!!

I'm truly at a loss for something to write! For a series that was great to begin with, you've made vast improvements on it and have really outdone yourself! Not only did a great deal of time and talent go into this, but so did a great deal of thought.

The chapter selection screen is second to none I've seen on NG! The brief description boxes that pop up when a button is rolled over are slick and give a tight synopsis of what's to be expected. Brilliant! Though not technically a "game", I also liked the sprite click 'n' stick! Well done!

There's nothing more to be said about your story and its execution that I haven't said in previous reviews. It never fails to entertain nor does it lose the audience's interest! You impressively balance your visuals with your text which shows a great knack for direction.

I see you becoming a legend on NG! Keep making us proud!

Hey doc, i've been leaving my response to you for last since at this stage I think your review can be considered one of the most important ones. Thank you for unyeilding support with my flashes and for being an inspiration to keep that flash fire alive in me. Of everyone on NG I think you have had the most chance to watch and see my abilities grow, and I thankyou for that. With yours and everyone else's support I hope I do become that legend you speak of that will make you all proud. Thankyou as always for your comments and don't worry I'll get a real sprite game up there once I learn actionscript instead of fake it:-p

Good Stuff

It's not often there's a satisfying short on NG. I found this funny in its random acts of violence. The fact that the rocks just come out of nowhere is what made me laugh out loud. I think the sound effects were spot on and the animation wasn't too shabby. The lack of holding lines made the artwork look pretty slick.

The walk cycle was off. When the left arm swings forward, the right leg is supposed to swing forward and vice versa. This had the left arm moving forward with the left leg and so on. Also, you don't need to have your copyright info up on the cartoon the whole time. It's distracting. The best place for it would be the screen where your play button is. If you feel you must have it up on the screen the whole time, place it at the bottom right of the screen where it's not such an eyesore.

Overall, I thought this was a great effort and worth watching a few times. You've got talent and a good head for comedy. Best of luck on your next project!

Guh... i KNEW there was going to be something wrong with that.... Walking animations are REAL pain in the ass.

"Oh shi ..."

That line from the piece sums up how I feel about this latest installment. You never cease to improve on these episodes and you already started with high marks on the first one! I thought this particular episode started off great with a bit of humour and really worked on creating a feeling of hopelessness without becoming redundant with the battle scenes. The ending leaves the audience hanging which is the bread and butter of episodic storytelling. I'm very impressed with your work and look forward to seeing this story unfold. Excellent stuff!

Kaosboy85 responds:

Thank you very much Doc! Coming from a talented flash artist like yourself (I've checked out your site) your review put a smile on my face and makes me feel good to know that at least one person is able to understand the atmosphere that i've been tring to set with this flash. Thanks again for your time and I hope I can raise the bar again in my skill with ep4.

Excellent Job!

I think you did an exceptional job with this! The sprites look great, the animation is smooth, your visual storytelling is excellent and you've got a well-timed pace throughout. I'm impressed!

You already know your weak spot is English (do you speak a Nordic language?) and I think it shows excellent initiative to look for help with it.

This is a slick project and I look forward to many more from you. Best of luck! Cheers!

Getting Better!

I enjoyed the first installment and I'm happy to say the series is only getting better!

Your sprites still look great and you've really worked on the animation, but I have to say what wins me over with this episode is the story. It's well written and intriguing. I like how the commander is pompous and over-confident. I don't know anything about the Mega Man universe so I don't know how well you're sticking to the characters as they were originally created, but I like what you're doing so far!

Keep up the great work! Cheers!

Kaosboy85 responds:

Hey thanks! I'm glad you liked it and most of all I'm glad you liked, and are gettign into the story, that was my main goal for ep2. I'm also glad you got the irony with the commander (don't worry you'll see him again in ep3). As far as the story line, I'm trying the best I can to stick to the story line so far the only thing that i've majorly changed was the fact that if X and zero were to die Alie prob would not be the third in command, but you have to use the sprite sheets that are available. Thanks again for the review!

Oddly Enough, It's Funny

Overall, I thought this was pretty good. It told its story clearly and the music was fitting. The animation was okay and the art was suitable for this kind of piece. The only real problem I see is that the music cuts out all of a sudden. You should stream it next time.

**SPOILER WARNING - DO NOT READ PAST THIS POINT IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THE PIECE!**
I understand via your Author's Comments this is based on a true account, but there was still humour in it. Whether intentional or not, the first time he jumps off the cliff, the outcome is funny because it's unexpected and improbable. That's visual comedy. The second bit I found funny, in a depressing sort of way, is when she says, "If you fall ... I will fall with you!" Isn't it usually, "If you fall ... I will catch you"? It shows she really wasn't stable either. Finally, the both of them saying, "See you .." just before the end really was hilarious. It was like they were leaving the mall or something.

Again, I understand this wasn't meant to be funny, but even unintentionally, the humour is there! Overall, good job! I look forward to more stuff from you!

AMAZING!

I can't believe how jam packed this cartoon is for only a little over 1.5meg! You should post the website in your profile as well because it's got some great stuff!

The economy of movement in the animation, the crisp artwork and the flawless, clear sound really make this piece spectacular! Excellent job!

Not Bad

Overall, this piece isn't too shabby! Your sprites are nice and clean; your story is simple and direct; your sound is spot on though it could stand for a bit of compression. I especially liked when the lights went out and the battle was just flashes of action from the darkness.

Next time, be aware of your sound file size, have someone correct your spelling and grammar and be careful of sprite shift. In some of the action sequences, Mega Man shifted needlessly. Use onion skinning next time to make sure he's anchored to one spot during certain animations.

Again, I think this is a good solid effort and I look forward to more work from you!

Kaosboy85 responds:

Hey thanks alot, yea this one was basically my first so it was all touch and go. The sound is def screwing me over though. And yea, I learned about onion skins like literally 3 days ago... so that will be one of the many improvements in the second ep. Thanks again for the review!

Was This Blammed Before?

I could have sworn I saw this a few weeks ago submitted under the title, "Ciao Bella". Why was it blammed? I thought it had a solid story, some great twisted humour ("Kill the granny") and the art with the animation were alright. The only sore spot of the piece is the sound file. It's too fat. Next time, you should compress your sound and your final file size will be more acceptable.

Overall, I think this piece is good and worthy of staying on NG. If it gets blammed again, don't be discouraged because you have some great potential! Best of luck!
